Day 1: Arrival Nairobi

Your professional driver/guide will report to your hotel to start the safari to Masai Mara, with a departure between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM for a picturesque drive in your 4X4 Safari Land Cruiser. You will descend the Great Rift Valley on your way to Maasai Mara, Kenya’s famous game reserve. The drive will take approximately 6 hours, with a stopover at the “Viewpoint,” a great observation area for witnessing the amazing views of the Great Rift Valley. You’ll have the chance to buy a few collectibles or souvenirs along the way. Upon arrival in the Maasai Mara, check in for lunch at Base Camp Mara and take some time to refresh or rest. The afternoon game drive at 3:30 PM allows for spotting the magnificent wildlife in the park, including the Big Cats such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as rhinos, elephants, and wildebeests. Return to your lodge by 6:30 PM for dinner and overnight.

Basecamp Mara serves as both a home and travel destination. Guests become part of the Maasai community at this pioneering eco-camp, which opened in 1998. It is moderately sized and located in Koiyaki Lemek, just outside the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The camp, nestled along the north bank of the Talek River, has direct access to the reserve via a private footbridge. Basecamp Mara gained world fame in 2006 by hosting Barack Obama during his visit to Kenya.

The camp features 17 tents set up on wooden platforms, surrounded by a shady wooded site, providing plenty of space between each tent. Each tent is large, rectangular, and made of canvas and mosquito screens, resting on a wooden deck equipped with recliners and hammocks.

Day 2: Full Day – Maasai Mara Game Reserve

After an early morning breakfast, embark on a packed day exploring the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Enjoy unlimited game drives across the vast savannahs, tracking big cats along with elephants, giraffes, buffalos, and other mammals found in this world-famous park. If visiting during the Great Migration (July – October), witness the amazing movement of animals, including thousands of zebras, gazelles, and wildebeests crossing the Mara River in search of fresh grasses. The river is also home to hippos and crocodiles, eagerly watching the herds cross into their territory.

If you wish to add a cultural aspect to your safari, request your driver/guide to arrange a visit to a local Maasai village. This optional experience will provide insight into the native people and their homes. For a unique safari experience, consider signing up for an optional early morning hot air balloon ride over the Mara, watching the rising sun illuminate the fields and wildlife below. Your driver/guide can make all the necessary arrangements.

Day 3: Depart

Transfer to Nairobi

Enjoy early morning game drives before breakfast, then return to the lodge for a full breakfast. After checking out, depart for Nairobi, stopping for lunch along the way. You are expected to arrive in Nairobi in the early evening, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or at the airport.
